What is a Personal Injury Case?

If there is negligence by another person and/or a corporation which results in injury to you then that is a personal injury. It could be a physical injury or mental injury. There are many types of personal injuries. Some common types are, car accident claims, slip and falls, truck accident claims, boat accident claims, pedestrian accident claims and bicycle accident claims. Personal injury cases can be large or small. These cases range from small injury cases to large injury cases based on the extent of the injury. However, all cases are important.

What should I do if I am in a car accident?

If you are in a car accident where someone has been injured, immediately call 911 and request an ambulance. The most important things to do are to call for help by requesting an ambulance and report the accident. When you report the accident, make sure you get a police report. Many times, the person who caused the motor vehicle accident may ask you not to call the police stating that you can handle the situation, “between the two of you.” DON’T EVER DO THAT! There is a good chance that you will never be able to contact that person again. The best thing to do is have the police come to the scene of the accident, investigate the situation, and make a report. Both parties will produce their insurance at that time.

If I am in a car accident should I call the police?

The short answer is yes. Please call the police. You will need the police to investigate the situation. You will need a report of what has occurred. It is harder to prove a personal injury accident case without a written report from the police.  It is very hard to obtain the Defendant’s insurance information without the police report information. Ask the policy officer to write the police report and get the report number.

Why do I need a lawyer?

If you are in an accident through no fault of your own, you may need an attorney because the insurance companies are in the business of making money and not necessarily looking out for you. They have employees called adjusters who will look out for their client, the insurance company itself. Attorney Dawn Grace-Jones will strategize to help do what is best for you.
